堺市が推奨する「生きごみさん」は段ボール箱の中で土の中の微生物（好気性菌）等を活動させて生ゴミを分解する、環境に「やさしい生ゴミ減量・たい肥化の方法で、ガレージやベランダなどでも気軽にでき、においが少ないことが特徴です。それでは早速、「生きごみさん」の作り方と育て方についてみてみましょう！
Using “Mr. Compost" recommended by Sakai City is an eco-friendly way to reduce food waste and compost—that is, decompose food waste by making microorganisms (aerobic bacteria) in the soil active in a cardboard box. It is easy to make it in a garage or balcony, and it isn't as stinky as you might think. Let's take a look at how to compost with Mr. Compost!
② ステップ 育てる 生ゴミを投入しよう！
生ゴミの初投入時 １〜2日経って箱のフタを開けた時に、湿度の上昇（もわっとした空気）が確認できたら、生ごみ投入を開始しよう！
生ごみ量は1日１回300g〜500gを目安にしてください。（排水溝の網かご１杯分）
※湿度の上昇を強く感じるのは1日だけです。

Add your food waste!
When to add food waste:
A day or two after prepping the Mr. Compost box, open it and check whether the contents are warm and moist. Then you can start adding your food waste! Aim for 300 to 500g (about one sink drainer full) once per day.
*You will feel a strong temperature increase for just one day.
生ゴミ投入：1回目
分解床に直径・深さ15cmほどの穴を掘り、そこへ生ゴミを入れ、優しく土をかぶせてから中袋と箱を閉じます（毎回閉じること）。
生ゴミ投入：２回目
分解床に前回とは違う場所に穴を掘り、そこへ生ゴミを入れ、やさしく土をかぶせます。前回ゴミを投入した場所へ、スコップを立てて数か所ザクザクつつき、空気を適度に入れます。
生ゴミ投入：３回目
投入１回目の場所に穴を掘り、生ごみを入れて、やさしく土をかぶせましょう。１回目のゴミが残っていても大丈夫です。前回ゴミを投入した場所へ入れ、空気を適度に入れます。
生ゴミ投入：４回目
４回目以降は投入から１週間ごとに1~3回目の動作を繰り返します。箱全体を満遍なくかき混ぜ、水を適量加えましょう。土の中からゴミが表面に出てきたらやさしく土をかぶせましょう。
Add food waste: Day 1
Dig a hole 15cm in diameter and depth in the compost bed. Add food waste, cover gently with soil, and close the inner bag and box.
Add food waste: Day 2
Dig a hole in a different place than the last time and bury the food waste, covering it gently with soil. With a garden trowel, poke the area you added the food waste to last time to aerate the soil.
Add food waste: Day 3
Dig in the same place as the first day, add more food waste, and cover gently with soil. It is not a problem if some food waste is still visible from the first day. Aerate the soil from the Day 2 area.
Add food waste: Day 4
From the fourth day on, repeat the steps from Days 1-3 every week. Mix the contents of the entire box evenly, and add a little water as needed to keep moist. If some food waste rises to the surface, cover it gently with soil.

What kind of food waste can you use?
入れられるもの
・調理くず 例）野菜、果物の皮やヘタ、火を通した肉の脂、魚のアラ
・食べ残し・期限切れの食材・腐ったもの（イヤな臭いのしない物）
・その他 例）お茶ガラ、コーヒーかす、発酵食品（ヨーグルトや納豆など、）ジュース、お菓子
【分解が遅い物】
・堅い物 例）甲殻類のカラ、卵のカラ、種は堅い種皮で覆われており分解できないので避けましょう。
・水分の少ない物 例）玉ねぎの皮
・大きな物 例）キャベツの芯 そのままできるだけ小さく切ったり、ちぎったりすれば大丈夫です。
入れられない物
・塩分の多い物 例）糠漬け用の塩の入ったぬか床、漬物
・大きな骨、分解されず箱からあふれてきます。
・腐ったもの（イヤな臭いがする物）
・生の肉・魚 湯通し、レンジでチンすれば大丈夫です。
夏場は１ヶ月、冬場は２ヶ月で堆肥のもとに！
Acceptable items:
● Cooking waste (vegetable & fruit peels and ends, fat from meat, fish scraps)
● Leftovers/Out-of-date foods (spoiled food with no bad odor)
● Other food scraps (used tea leaves, coffee grounds, fermented foods like yogurt or natto, juice, snack foods)
Foods that take longer to decompose:
● Hard items (seafood shells, eggshells, and seeds should be avoided because they take a long time to decompose)
● Dry items (onion skins)
● Large items (cabbage cores and such should be chopped into small pieces)
Unacceptable items:
● Salty items (rice bran for pickling, pickles)
● Large bones (unbroken bones which don't easily fit in the compost bed)
● Spoiled food (smelly, spoiled food)
● Raw meat or fish (boil or microwave it before composting)
